My New Job & How It’s Going to Change My Blog

A few weeks ago, I kicked off the new year with new resolutions and plans to start a new job. Well, I finally started last week (!!!) and I wanted to celebrate by sharing a few details about the new gig and what that will mean for the blog.

I’m so unbelievably excited to share that I’m now a Corporate Communications Manager at JetBlue! I’ll be supporting internal communications for the company’s People Team (aka HR/talent/culture). It’ll be a new adventure to say the least and I have a feeling that it’s going to shape the future of my blog in a major way.

There will obviously be a lot more travel in store for 2017, but I also want to focus on an even more important journey. The professional one. For those of you who know me, you know that my career path has been anything but conventional. I graduated from law school, passed the bar but didn’t want to practice law, moved to NYC without a job, hated my first non-lawyer job thanks to a crazy boss, worked at a fashion brand for three years and now I’m here.

For our generation, professional growth is anything but linear and as a community, we should support each other in all of our own unique journeys. That’s why I’m starting a career-focused series here on the blog. Every Monday, I’ll be sharing my own experiences or perspectives on putting together a resume, nailing an interview, landing a dream job, and pursuing your passions.

Do you have any specific career-related questions that you’d like to see me tackle? Let me know in the comments section or shoot me an email at jen@skirttherulesblog.com.

  4. Wow, I did not realize you had a law degree and never practiced law! Maybe I did but I have a terrible memory? In either case, I wish you nothing but success and happiness at your new job and hope you love it. I’m struggling with finding a new job as I was so unhappy at my previous job and want to make sure I find something I feel good about it. I find it interesting that you ended up in a completely different field because I’ve been thinking about doing something different so I’m curious how you made these transitions.

    • Hey girl! Love your question so much that I’m going to dedicate a whole post for it in a couple weeks. I’ve totally been in your shoes before (literally, I had a quick stint in social work before law school too!). I definitely played up the blog and how the skills of strategizing/producing content were transferable to the roles I was seeking. More to come! xx
