In my birthday post from last month, I mentioned that blogging is the only hobby that I’ve ever kept up with. I still can’t believe it’s been over 7 years since I bought a DSLR, convinced my then boyfriend (now husband) to take photos of me and then made my debut to the world. At the peak of my blogging side hustle, I was publishing 5 posts a week, in addition to keeping up with all of my social media platforms. Now, I’m lucky if I post once or twice a week on the blog (don’t even get me started with Instagram). Lately, I feel like my motivation to blog has been dwindling and fast and I’m trying to figure out how to fix that.

It might have to deal with the fact that I started a new career early this year. To all of my blogger friends who still have 9-to-5 jobs, you know it isn’t easy. Now more than ever, focusing my efforts on a new and pretty demanding job (which I’m very passionate about) leaves little fuel in my tank at the end of the day to edit photos and write for my blog. But then I remind myself that I have the same amount of hours in the day as Beyonce. No excuses!

And then there’s the content. I love shopping and experiment with my personal style – always have and always will. Even though I no longer work in the fashion industry, it will always have a special place in my heart. But is it something that I want to talk about on my blog for the rest of my life? Probably not.

For a while, I was developing a career focused series (i.e. how I switched career industries, when is it time to find a new job and why I put my blog on my resume). I’ve also dabbled in travel, sharing my trip to Mykonos and Santorini (this video has up to 60,000 views!). I really did enjoy writing about something other than what I was wearing – and hopefully you enjoyed it too!

I think one of the hardest things about blogging is deciding what to talk about. Without some sort of direction, it can feel like I’m talking to myself – or worse, to a wall. It can feel pretty isolating and hence, really discouraging. So I think that’s where you come in. I’ve always loved hearing your feedback – especially when something resonates with you. When I wrote about my professional journey during my career series, I received a bunch of comments, emails and DMs, which let me know I was on the right track. But I want this blog to be about that – helping and inspiring others. In order to do so, I need to know what you want from me!

Please help me shape the future of this blog by sharing what you’d topics you’d like me to tackle on Skirt The Rules. This can be anything from college or career advice, questions about living in NYC or blogging, etc. Let me know whatever’s on your mind and I will absolutely work it into my blog somehow. Anything is fair game!

I created a quick survey that you can fill out here or just leave me a comment below. Thank you – your feedback is the fuel that I need to get back on track!

I loved your career series! Maybe more information about your job, and marketing in general, as it ties in with other lifestyle themes? Also life in NYC would be great!

Love this outfit and your smile is just so cute! Also I think it would be really cool if you did some blog posts on local places in New York. Some hidden gems only people who live in the city know about!

I honestly love everything that you do on your blog & love that it has morphed into more of a life & style blog rather than just style. I would love to hear more tips about blogging & definitely more travel content!

Hi Jen! This is my first comment here although I’ve been following you here for a couple of years or so. I really enjoy reading anything you can write about it’s just always so refreshing and inspiring! I love your style too but I must admit this is not the only thing I keep seeking here. I guess I like how you share your positive attitude and cheerfulness. I also really enjoyed your posts focused on career and motivation tips as I’ve been trying to figure out what my next career move would be (I’ll start taking a new course as from next September in addition to some internships in the field I’ve be interested in for a while). But overall, I guess I would enjoy more lifestyle posts (a lifestyle blog?), like about your work experience, or any workout routine, beauty tips, favorite food. Hope this long comment makes sense (as I’m French by the way)! In any case, keep blogging, you’re successful in your willingness to inspire!
