1. Set reasonable goals.
There’s something about the New Year that makes us feel overly ambitious, especially when it comes to setting goals for ourselves. Sure, it’s full of good intent, but it can also be the reason behind a lot of broken resolutions. Instead, take things one step at a time. This might mean setting a goal for the next month, instead of the entire year. Or resolving to work out 3-4 times a week, instead of aiming to lose 30 pounds. When you break it down, your aspirations seem way more achievable and you become much more motivated to work towards them.
2. Share it with friends and family.
Now that you’ve got your resolutions resolved, who’s going to keep you accountable to them? By sharing your goals with friends and family, you create an instant support system that will cheer you on and keep you honest. Who knows, you might even inspire someone to join the journey with you – gym buddies, anyone? I usually share my resolutions on my blog (coming soon!), which also allows me to go back and reference them later in the year.
3. But do it for yourself.
Whether you resolve to feel healthier, be more active or learn more, you’re the one that has everything to gain from your goals. Not your parents, not your significant other and definitely not your exes. If you find yourself a few months into the year and struggling to keep up, don’t forget why you made the resolutions in the first place. You did it for you!
