Finding the Perfect Pair of Ripped Jeans

The Perfect Pair of Ripped Jeans

Lush twist front woven shirt (only $45 and comes in 5 colors!) / BLANKNYC ‘Good Vibes’ ripped jeans / GiGi New York ‘Madison’ crossbody bag (c/o) / Gorjana ‘Carine’ mixed metal cuff (c/o) / Gorjana ‘Candice’ ring (c/o) / Kendra Scott ‘Elton’ cuff / Movado ‘Bold’ bangle watch (c/o) / Topshop ‘Kimi’ loafer (also comes in gold!)

I remember when I was younger, my dad would always make fun me for wearing ripped jeans. He’d call my pants broken or ask if I needed money to go buy new clothes (the answer was yes, always!). Joke all you want, Dad, but there’s something about a pair of ripped jeans that makes everything look better. It injects a little texture and makes a basic outfit seem like something special. The only trouble is trying to find the perfect pair.

Things become especially tricky if you hover around the 5’2″ range and shorter (that’s me). Jeans need to be cuffed, holes don’t hit where they’re supposed and the thought of owning a pair that fits right becomes a little discouraging. Over time though, I’ve found a few pairs that I wear every other day (like these dark wash pair) or some that I fell in love with so much, that I don’t mind that the cutouts are a few inches lower than they should be (like these super distressed pair). Here are a few of my favorite:

AG ‘The Legging’ Ankle Denim: When I bought my very first pair last year, I was hooked! They’re created with a little stretch and fit like a glove (plus, the holes actually hit me at the knee!). Yes, they’re a bit of an investment, but if you keep an eye out, Nordstrom will or price match or markdown a style every now and then. I loved them so much, I bought them in a lighter wash and have my eye on this smokey gray pair.

DL1961 ‘Emma’ Power Leggings: Another denim legging hybrid, but no complaints here. They’re a little stiffer in material than AG’s version, but you can score them at a better price point (still an investment, but considering how often everyone wears denim, it’s so worth it!). I have a lighter pair from years ago, but I’m loving this dark faded wash (and they also come in maternity sizing!)

BLANKNYC Jeans: This is my first foray into the brand, but when I saw these overly distressed jeans, it was love at first sight. Sure, the holes don’t hit me at the knees, but is there an official rule that it has to? Didn’t think so. You can see how the jeans look on me in this post from last week. At $88 for most of their jeans, this is probably going to be the best bang for your buck. I have my eye on this super slashed pair.

Do you have a go-to pair of ripped jeans? Let me know your favorite brand in the comments section and I might go give them a test drive!
