Rewind & Remix: A Three Year Retrospective

Spring Inspired Outfityear one | top | skirt | necklace | bracelet | heels

This Friday will mark three years since I started my blog.  I’ll save the sentimental spiels for later on in the week, but I thought it would be fun to look back on a few of my favorite outfits throughout the year and see how my style has evolved.

In the first outfit, I remixed the skirt that started it all.  I was no stranger to prints back then and I’m certainly not today — except now, I would choose a skirt in a more whimsy print (think enlarged florals) and a lace top in a punchier color.  If there’s anything that NYC has taught me, it’s that more is more.

During my second year, I was still living in Arizona where short shorts reigned supreme.  These days, my casual look is a bit more refined, but also a lot more laid-back (does that even make sense?).  Today, I would choose a chambray shirt over its silky counterpart and pair it with white skinny jeans.  And those leopard shoes?  Same favorite print in every shape there is, please!

During year three, I completed my first year of living in NYC, chopped off my hair and dressed with a little more edge.  I still love me a bold cobalt blue, but next time around, I’ll be trying my hand at a structured crop top and slouchy pants.

Oh man, what a difference three years make.  Sometimes it pains me to go back to the beginning and flip through some cringe-worthy looks, but that’s all part of evolving/adapting/experimenting/discovering your personal style.  Thanks for following along!

Advanced Geometry (Part 3)

Dots and Geometric Print MixingThere’s nothing like a little refresher course in geometry to kick off the week.  Just kidding — I’m not trying to get into anything complex before I have my second cup of coffee this morning.J.Crew Geometric Print Pencil Skirt

Mixing prints, on the other hand, is quite elementary.  Polka dots make for an easy foundation when pairing up patterns. And when you start off with a blouse in a neutral color, pretty much any combo you concoct will make for an easy A.Polka Dot & Geometric Print Mixing Rebecca Minkoff Turquoise MAC Rebecca Minkoff Turquoise MAC ASOS Silver Pumps

SJP Moment

SJP Shoe CollectionI think we’ve all channeled a bit of Carrie Bradshaw at some point in our lives, whether it’s making your way in a big city or recounting dating misadventures with your closest girlfriends at brunch.  Even I’ve had a Carrie moment, twirling around the city in an over-the-top tulle skirt.

So when Sarah Jessica Parker dropped her debut shoe collection SJP, I immediately fell in love with the playful twist on classics.  I’m talking strappy sandals with feminine features and timeless pumps with reimagined details.  The shoes are still a bit of investment, but at least you’re not forgoing an entire month’s rent like Carrie.  Check out my favorite picks below and shop the line at Nordstrom!
