Every year, the holiday season seems to creep up on me, but not this time!  This year, I’m putting together a holiday style guide with ideas of what to wear for every occasion.  I’m kicking it off with Thanksgiving, which I can’t believe is only two weeks away!

For the first time ever, I won’t be spending time with my family on Thanksgiving, a day that I strongly associate with waking up to the Macy’s Day Parade on TV, flipping through Black Friday newspaper ads with my brother and helping — er, watching — my mom whip up an amazing family meal.

It’s going to be a quiet Turkey Day in NYC, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be mixing in a few fabulous details into my low key look.  Pair a sweet little dress with laid back flats and one big, sparkly necklace and you’ve got the perfect balance of casual chic.

sale section: nordstrom’s half-yearly sale.

One of my favorite sales of the year is here!  Nordstrom is having its half-yearly sale for women, juniors and kids where you can save up to 40% off on this season’s staples.  If I had my way, I’d buy it all.  Unfortunately, the wallet says otherwise and this girl’s gotta prioritize.

There are usually a few wardrobe essentials that I believe are worth the investment: jackets, shoes and handbags. They’re pieces that will stay with you from season to season and so when a sale like this hits, you know where I’ll be. Skirt The Rules Instagram

This week, I …

• Hung out with Mayor Giuliani at an event that I organized for work.  NBD … okay, big freaking deal!
• Create a fall/winter wishlist on Pinterest.  So many cute things, so little closet space.
• Splurged on this herringbone moto jacket, making my winter wardrobe instantly cooler.
• Just about died over the Real Life Instagram.  Can someone bring this to New York please?
• Hit 300 likes on the Skirt The Rules Facebook Page.  It’s a small milestone, but I’m still proud!  Have you liked it yet?
• Am hankering to make this cider bourbon cocktail by Caitlin.
• Started bookmarking my favorite finds from Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale!  Expect a roundup post soon!

Today, I’m back in Arizona for Homecoming Weekend!  It’s been nearly a year since I’ve been back, but Tucson still feels like home and that feeling, my friends, is priceless.  It’s going to be a quick trip, but I’ll be spending this weekend hanging out with my best friends and indulging in the best Mexican food before hopping on a red eye back to NYC tomorrow night.  Cheers!
