I didn’t even realize it was October until yesterday was nearly over.  So to ring in the new month, I’m starting a new segment called Monthly Musts — a roundup of essential items to get you through the next page of your wall calendar.

For October, I’m coveting pieces that are rich in color and texture.  Fall is a lot colder than my little Arizonan mind imagined so I’ll be stocking up on light and thick-knit sweaters, printed pants, and cozy boots.

sweater + leather.

My favorite part about dressing for fall is definitely playing around with different textures.  It’s the easiest way to incorporate a multitude of looks into one.  A light-knit sweater and a (faux) leather skirt make for a nice balance between prep and punk, but the jeweled collar necklace and lace clutch add a feminine feel.  Outfit identity crisis? Maybe, but mixing and matching is just way too fun.

fall color trend: oxblood.

With fall quickly approaching, it’s time we put away the bright colors and introduce richer shades into our wardrobe.  As the weather cools down, I’ll be sharing some of this season’s major color trends to help bring your wardrobe up to date.

Lesson #1: Red is out.  Oxblood is in.  Not a big fan of the name, but I’m obsessed with the color.  It’s a dark shade of burgundy with hints of brown and its richness just exudes warm and cozy feelings!  Check out my favorite oxblood items below and let me know what you think of this fall color trend.
