Would you believe me if I told you the dress that I’m wearing is actually too small for me? Didn’t think so! Turns out, all you need is a safety pin and a little creativity to MacGyver’ your way into an outfit.

Summer Style Inspiration: White Lace Midi Dress

I fell in love with this gorgeous white lace dress as soon as I saw it on Chicwish. Sadly, when I tried it on, it was a little too tight around my rib cage and wouldn’t completely zip! I was a bit bummed, but I didn’t let it get me down. Not wanting to let a good dress go to waste, I knew I had to channel Tim Gunn vibes and … Make. It. Work. The zipper stopped around halfway up its length, but I noticed that when I held the top two-ends together, it actually looked like it was an open-back dress. So I clipped it with a safety pin and voila — you probably wouldn’t even notice the difference had I not told you. Have you ever had to use some creative magic to make an outfit work? I’d love to hear your tips and tricks!

Hi! I love this tip – a great “fix” that ended up working out with your style of dress. I had bought an Ann Taylor sleeveless, v-neck floral dress a few years ago and it was just too loose. I typically don’t have things tailored to the point where they are fitted but thought I would give it a try. The tailor pinched both sides so tightly that when I went to try it on, it bulged in the mid-section and I could never fit into it. I don’t think for that dress leaving a gaping hole in the back and pinning the top would have solved the problem, but I do like the solution you presented! Did you end up taping the dress over the top of the zipper or is the zipper still visible? The dress looks great on you!

What a beautiful dress and a simple solution to fixing the little size mishap! I would never have thought to do that and the open back is beautiful!
