A Promise to 29-Year Old Me

ASOS picnic dress with cut out sides // Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’ sunglasses // GiGi New York ‘All in One’ clutch (c/o) (on sale!) // Movado ‘Bold’ rosegold bangle watch // Cocktail ring // Bourbon & Boweties pearl bracelet (c/o) // Kendra Scott ‘Andy’ station cuff (c/o) // Jack Rogers ‘Lauren’ sandal (c/o)

You know you just turned 29 when you’d rather celebrate by staying in to watch a Will Smith movie than getting turnt up at the bars.

No? Just me?

That’s right. I’ve officially entered my late twenties (years 26 through 28 counted as “late mid-twenties,” obviously) and I’m actually excited about it. It’s kind of strange, but I already feel changes a-brewin’. Besides my preference in Saturday-night activities, I feel like my whole MO is switching gears. I’ve always had a “more is more” approach to life, but I’m quickly realizing that the things I need more of in my life have been different than the things I’ve been chasing.

As part of Clinique’s #FaceForward campaign, I was challenged to make a promise to my future self, so I’m making three in the hopes that 29 is the best year yet.

1. Learn more. It’s been a while since I’ve graduated and some twisted little part of me misses it. But the good thing is that I don’t have to be stuck in a library to get my learn on – plus there are a lot more lessons to be learned than the ones you find in a textbook. A few life skills classes on my list: wine pairing, knife skills, sushi making, advanced photography, sewing … it’s like college, but the electives are way more fun.

2. Explore more. I’ve always had a desire to explore – I think that’s part of what brought me to move across the country in the first place. And the best part of living in New York is that there’s never a shortage of things to do, see and experience (i.e. finding the rainbow wall in DUMBO). After nearly three years here, I’ve got all of the major neighborhoods down pat. Now it’s time to check off a few of the outliers (Hoboken, Long Island City, Astoria, Bushwick) plus destinations along the East Coast that I have yet to visit (Cape Cod, Nantucket, Maine).

3. Create more. I’ve been blogging for over four years now and as I grow and evolve, my blog will undoubtedly follow suit. My content has been primarily focused on personal style and shopping, which I obviously love, but I feel like it’s time to switch gears a bit. I want to keep creating content that inspires and hopefully that will expand over the next year into lifestyle, design, and travel. Lots more to come and I can’t wait to share!

If 28 was amazing, then 29 is going to be incredible.

I am also 29 and its a great year. I have grown so much from my early and mid twenties in very positive ways. There are many Saturday nights where I would rather stay in with Netflix then go out to the bar/club. And I am perfectly fine with that. Happy Birthday!

  4. I’m just about to finish up 29 (well, I like to think I will remain 29 for a long time) and it was indeed a pretty great year. Hope yours is too!
