The official start of summer is just days away and I’m aching for an adventure. With the coziest cami and a punchy pair of printed shorts, I just need somewhere fitting to go. The honeymoon is still a few months out, but I’m feeling the need to escape the city pronto … so James and I are taking a quick getaway down to Asbury Park in New Jersey. Have you ever been? It’s going to be our first experience “down the shore” and I can’t wait to explore.

My favorite thing about getting out of NYC is seeing it from afar. If you follow me on Snapchat (username: skirttherules), you saw that I was in Brooklyn on Sunday evening to watch my husband play soccer (and maybe to take blog photos… #multitasking). Williamsburg is only one stop out of the city, but it feels like a world away. Things are a little quieter and a lot more laid-back, so I followed suit and embraced those off-duty vibes.

I wish I could say I was cool and always tie a button-up shirt around my waist with ease, but I’m not. I haven’t rocked this look since the 90’s, but have been meaning to give it a whirl again. I recently got this turquoise tank dress for summer, which I love because it’s so soft and simple! Still though, something felt like it was missing so I grabbed the coziest chambray shirt in my closet and voilà — extra cool points and an extra layer to keep me warm when the summer breeze rolls through.

I was all about the perfect black dress last week, but now I’m on to bigger and brighter things. I can’t get enough of this little coral dress — it has the easiest shape in the happiest little shade for spring. You can’t see it in these photos, but it also has the cutest bow detail on the back! Paired with a colorblock clutch and strappy heels, and it’s going to be the go-to outfit for all things rooftop or al fresco this season!
