Celebrating 5 Years of Living in New York City

Five years ago today, I moved to New York with two oversized suitcases and no job. I said goodbye to my then-boyfriend, now-husband behind while he finished his last semester of grad school in Arizona and moved in with a random Craigslist roommate for two months. After a month and a half of unemployment, I landed a job in marketing and communications – also from a Craigslist ad. Two months later, Hurricane Sandy rolled through and our apartment was without power for ten days (to give you a perspective of how much that sucked – I lived on the 17th floor and there was no way to get up except by climbing the stairs). In the first few months of living in New York, I wondered how long I could actually last here.

Thirty-one years ago today, I made my debut into the world. Man, has time flown by! I’ll be celebrating with a few of my favorites in NYC tonight, before heading off on a quick adventure to the south of France in a few days (I’m so excited for this trip, but probably should start packing soon…). In honor of my 31st birthday, I figured I’d switch it up a bit by sharing 31 things you may not know about me. Here goes nothin’.

Am I the only one who still can’t believe it’s already June? I mean, where did first half of the year go? I always get this unwarranted sense of anxiety around this time of year – like 2017 is already slipping away and I haven’t accomplished anything yet.

Obviously not true, but I rarely get the opportunity to relish in my milestones before it’s time to tackle the next big task. That’s why I was excited when Erin Condren asked me to partner with her and check out her signature LifePlanner – a completely customizable agenda/notebook/life organizer. I feel like it’s exactly what I need to get my life together midway through the year.

I got a sneak peek of Erin’s newest products at a special preview party last month and later got to customize my own LifePlanner exactly to my liking. I was able to chose the artwork on the cover, the interior color scheme and even the way the weekly pages are layed out! There were so many options, but I ended up going for the marble cover with a neutral color scheme. My life is a little crazy on the inside, so why not keep it minimal-looking on the outside?

The calendar starts from July 2017 all the way through December 2018, so I’m already counting down the days until I can dive right in. There’s also a ton of dedicated space to jot down goals, tasks and random thoughts. You know that feeling when you have so much going on in your head and just need to get it on a piece of paper to feel better? A brain dump is exactly what the doctor ordered!

Colorful Inspirational Stickers by Erin Condren

Not going to lie, I’m feeling pretty inspired knowing that I have a place to write down my thoughts in one spot. If there’s one thing I’ve learned after making and neglecting my New Year’s Resolutions every year, I’m great at making goals/plans, but terrible at following through. But now that I’m equipped with a gorgeous new organizer and a whole lot of inspiration, I’m hoping that’s about to change!
