Our First Christmas Tree in Our New Home

Hands down the best things about our new apartment is how much more room we have for things – like this garment rack that everyone was loving on my Instagram, but especially for our new Christmas tree. We didn’t have much room for anything in our old Gramercy apartment, so we always bought a small 2′ tree – it was real, but also real tiny.

So now that we have the room, the debate was – real or artificial tree? I grew up with a fake tree back in Arizona and it wasn’t until our first Christmas in NYC did we buy a real one. It was magical. It smells magical. But considering we’re  rarely home to enjoy for the few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, it just doesn’t seem practical. I wanted to have the freedom to put up a tree as early as we want and take it down whenever. So I read a lot of great reviews on this 6′ artificial flocked tree and pulled the trigger (even though James explicitly said to not buy a tree – whoops!).

Okay, flock or no flock? If I’m gonna go with a fake tree, do I also want fake snow on it? The tree that I grew up with was terribly flocked (I think it was a DIY – sorry dad!), smelled weird and shed white fluffy stuff everywhere. But also, if done right, a flocked tree looks just a magical as a real one. But just like the reviews indicated, this tree is top notch quality. The snow looks realistic enough and it didn’t shed too much while assembling (which was also super easy to do). All wins in my book! The only thing I wish was that I had bought the 7′ tree – we definitely have the space!
