On Turning 32

Floral Jumpsuit (only $18!)
Last Thursday I turned 32. And while it really just felt like any other day, I have a feeling that this year is going to be one of my best yet. So while I had a low key birthday dinner with my husband, I’m celebrating on the blog with three things I’m looking forward to this year.

Buying an apartment

Did I mentioned that we’re in process of buying an apartment?! It’s a little too soon to celebrate as we haven’t quite closed yet, but this new chapter in our life is as exciting as it is terrifying! It means we’re putting down roots in New York (a future which has really been up in the air ever since we moved here nearly six years ago). It also means we’ll have a place to really call ours and make our own. I can’t wait to start the nesting process!

Checking off more places on my travel bucket list

As a happily married, 32-year old, the #1 question I get asked by friends and family is: When are you and James having kids?! My answer: when we’re done checking off all the destinations on our travel bucket list. Just kidding – if that was our frame of reference, then I’d probably be 80 by the time I’d be ready. Honestly though, we’re not in a rush. We’re just barely getting a handle on this whole adulting gig and with our ability to travel easily and often, I would love to spend another year or so checking off some incredible places. Currently on the wishlist: Spain, Philippines, Peru and South Africa.

Decluttering my life

This might be in part because of our impending move, but I’m ready to let go of the unnecessary things in my life. When I read the Magic Art of Tidying Up a few years ago, I learned that the best way to figure out whether you should keep something or not is to ask yourself, “Does this bring me joy?” If it doesn’t, then it’s time to say goodbye – no excuses! This goes for physical possessions like clothes, books and other knick knacks, but I think it also goes for the intangible too. As I get older, I have a clearer sense of what brings me real joy versus superficial happiness versus just straight up drama. Give me joy – all of it!

Happy birthday Jen!! Big things are happening and I love the idea of de-cluttering things in my life. I definitely want to do that as well!

Happy belated Birthday! I’m turning 33 in a month, and I feel like the baby question is coming up more and more. We have so many friends with kids now, but they all totally understand when we say we still want to do and see more. Life changes forever when you make that decision, so definitely not about rushing into it. Can’t wait to see what the next year brings for you!
