My First (and Probably Only) Experience at a Hollywood Premiere

It’s not every day you get invited to a movie premiere in Hollywood, so when you do, make sure it’s one to remember!

Last week, I was in LA for the world premiere of the Disney movie ‘A Wrinkle in Time.’ I was invited as part of a project that I supported for my 9-to-5 job, not my blog. But still, it was the perfect reason to throw on a gorgeous dress and get dolled up for a night! My friends at Glamsquad even came over to take care of hair, makeup and nails. For real though — what is this life?

Attending a Hollywood premiere was equal parts surreal and stressful. I never thought I would be the type of person to get starstruck, but as my co-workers and I walked the blue carpet, I just started screaming uncontrollably at the sight of Oprah just ten feet away. I begged her for a photo (ugh, so desperate), bit she politely declined and said she had to get back to work fielding questions from media outlets.

It was interesting watching the parade of people on the carpet. There were three lanes: the first for celebs being interviewed by media, the second for celebs who were out to support the film (I saw the entire cast of Black-ish, Kobe Bryant and his family, Ellen Pompeo and her daughter) and a third lane for us common folk just to revel in their presence. After the interviews wrapped up, we were all shuffled into El Capitan Theater were we placed our cell phones in security bags (they lock magnetically and can only be opened after the movie), grabbed free soda and popcorn and watched the movie. I was in the nosebleed balcony and O was in the front row, but we were basically on a date night at the movies together.

Later on at the afterparty, my co-workers and I stalked all of the celebs until I got a photo with Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling. I mentioned that the experience was stressful because I hate asking for things from people, let alone requesting a photo with a celeb! You can see them on the LA highlight of my Instagram stories.

All in all, it was an incredible experience. Not an opportunity that I’m sure I’ll ever have again and definitely one that I wouldn’t have been able to be a part of if it wasn’t for my job (it’s been over a year and I’m still pinching myself that I have it!). As for my next hangout sesh with O? A girl can dream!
