How to Make Your Style Stand Out

In a world where it seems like everyone has a blog, how do you make your style stand out? And even if you don’t blog, how do you find those personal touches that make your wardrobe truly your own? It’s taken me almost 30 years to find my style. Well … more like 25 if you don’t count the years I was dressed in my older brother’s hand-me-downs (thanks Mom). The answer – which is definitely not singular – is in the details.

Skirt The Rules / Blue & White Striped Baby Doll Dress

Let me introduce you to this dress. She’s a little out there, but so feminine and flirty. When I first tried her on, I felt like I grew a pair of angel wings, but as James and I shot these photos in Madison Square Park, I kept receiving compliments from ladies passing by. Plus, I feel at my best when I’m a little dolled up and looking extra girly, so let’s throw in a hot pink crossbody bag and a strappy pair of heels while we’re at it.

It’s important to build your wardrobe with foundation of classics, but equally as vital to bring in a little bit of novelty every now and then. And sometimes you need that unexpected detail to remind you why finding your style can be so much fun.

Pretty dress, but can you see yourself ever wearing it again? Or wearing it in a different way? Yes it’s easy to say develop your style with interesting pieces, but for the average person you can’t have an entire wardrobe made up of interesting pieces that can only be worn once. My 2 cents.

Hi E! I think you make a valid point. You definitely can’t build an entire wardrobe on novelty pieces, but I disagree that they can only be worn once. Sometimes you’ll only see something once on my blog, but in real life, I try to get as many wears out of all of my clothes. I’ll definitely try and re-style this dress for the future and will let you know if it ever comes back on the blog! 🙂
