What to Do, See and Eat in Mykonos, Greece

When we were planning our trip to Greece, I knew I wanted to do, see and eat the best of the best, because I was going to share it all with you! Many of you have left comments, sent me emails and DMed me about questions our trip, so if you’re planning to Greece soon or have it on your bucket list (which is a MUST!), I’m putting together a video travel guide series on my YouTube channel for you! In the next few weeks, we’ll share our recommendations for what to see/do, where to eat/stay and how to get around in Mykonos, Santorini and Athens. P.S. Just bear with us on the video quality, we’re brushing up on our skills and might be a little shaky sometimes (especially trying to film on a boat!).
First up: the beautiful island of Mykonos!
What it’s Known For: Blue doors, white-washed buildings and stone-lined streets (Mykonos Town). Some of the best beaches in the Cyclades Islands (Platis Gialos and Elias Beach). Insane party-until-sunrise night life (Paradise and Super Paradise Beach). Mykonos’ reputation as a crazy party island proceeds itself, but I promise it’s still worth visiting even if that isn’t your scene!
How to Get the There: We flew into Athens, so we booked a connecting flight straight to Mykonos (we were only in the air for about 20 minutes – super quick and easy!). You can also take a high-speed ferry, which would take you about 2.5 hours or a regular that takes about 5 hours. During peak season (June – August), you should book your ferry tickets in advance, but when we visited in May, we were able to buy tickets at the ticket office on the port.
Where to Stay: Depending on your plans, you can either stay near the city center of Mykonos or closer to one of the many beaches on the island. We knew we wanted to be beachside, so we stayed at Hotel Palladium near Platis Gialos (it’s a pretty family-friendly beach where most of the restaurants offer free beds and umbrellas to their customers). I loved the staff, the property and the ridiculous breakfast spread, which was the perfect way to get the day started every morning.
What to Do: Watch the sunset in Little Venice with giant cocktails and a front row view at Caprice. Get lost in the beautiful, Pinterest-worthy streets of Mykonos Town. Soak up the sun and then party all night at Paradise or Super Paradise Beach.
Where to Eat: Blue Myth and Avli Tou Thodori are two of the top ranked restaurants on Mykonos and they both happen to be near Platis Gialos Beach (right next two each other!). I recommend sharing a bunch of different plates with each other to get the full experience and whatever you do, you NEED to order the feta wrapped in a sesame crust and drizzled in honey from Blue Myth. Hands down, the best thing I ate in Greece.
How to Get Around: From where we stayed, it was a five-minute walk to two different beaches – not too shabby! For 10€, you could also take a water taxi from Platis Gialos to Paradise, Super Paradise and Elias Beach. For 1.80€, you can take the bus into Mykonos Town, which runs every 30 minutes (there was a stop right outside our hotel, which was clutch!). There are also plenty of shops where you can rent ATVs and motorcycles – it’s a great way to get around and see the island in its entirety. We rented one while we were in Santorini, so more on that experience to come!

Friends & I were on Mykonos for 3 weeks in June and planning to return to Greece in 2017. Stayed in Tourlos near Aigos Stephanos Beach. The place you stayed sounds great will check it out. The Allegro was our favorite place to eat. Can’t go wrong, all the beaches are fabulous and the people are wonderful.
Jen, I found your blog at the right time!! I’ve traveled a lot in my lifetime, but since I was 8 my dream was to visit Greece!! I was obsessed with it! I am heading over there in exactly 30 days to celebrate my 40th bday with my mom, sisters and 4 close friends (we are really 29 of course lol) I need a suggestion for dinner in Mikonos on Sept 16th to celebrate…a really nice place – I never wear dresses but I am going to wear one for this special occasion 😉 )
Our hotel is in Platis Gialos also, so the tip to go to into Mykonos town and Paradise beach was perfect!
We are also going to Athens and Paros island with a day trip to Santorini
I hope you see this message and can suggest a cool, chic, nice place to have dinner on my bday and maybe a bar for cocktails after in Mykonos.

i have been to mykonos Twice and I to find it magical! I loved your pics! I prefer to stay closer to town so after dinner you can wander the streets as the town comes to life at night! The water taxi is a great way to see all the beaches and helps to make your decisions easier!
Food is fantastic every where you go in greece and i like to travel in the months of june, september and october as you miss the crowds!

Hi Monica! How many days would you say is sufficient for Mykonos? Planning our trip currently. I like your idea of staying closer to town too, to wander! That’s great info!
I already visited IBIZA in june 2017 and now i am dicided to take a tour of MYKNOS in june 2018.
My 2nd trip to Greece and 1st to Mykonos and Santorini to teach another Painting Workshop. Best way to visit anytime in Greece is with a group of talented people. Really looking forward to painting Mykonos ! Oh, and the food is just fabulous !!
