For Memorial Day Weekend, the bf and I escaped the heat and spent a few days in San Diego.  The ocean breeze provided the perfect climate for lightweight blazers and long dresses.

On top of the fact that this dress was only $10 at H&M, I fell in love it with for its thick white & marigold stripes and fun, flowing shape (it’s perfect for twirling around!).  I topped it with a cobalt blue blazer, not just for a little warmth, but because I love the combination of big, bold colors for summer.

Definitely taking a piece of the beach back with me when I go back to work tomorrow.  Hope everyone had a wonderful MDW!

pink pants.

Since I got over my tomboy days, I’ve never really been a pants person.  Shorts, skirts, dresses, yes, yes, yes.  Leggings — why yes, I think I wore a pair every day this winter.  I’ve been lacking in the pants department so when I saw this pink pair at Zara in Santa Monica, I thought, “Why not?”

It’s getting a little too hot here to really get a feel for them (our meager two weeks of spring have long since passed), but I thought I’d take them for a brief test run. Admittedly, I love how they turned out!  Paired with a super lightweight, nude blouse, the color combo is perfect for spring!

I’ll definitely be investing in more when the weather cools down (during our two weeks of fall), but until then, it’s back to shorts, skirts, and dresses for me.

color combo.

My favorite part of spring is the return of bright, bold colors.  It’s about time we shed the layers of black and grey, and inject some vibrant hues into our lives.

A few weeks ago, I visited one of my favorite stores, Zara (located on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica), and found the perfect inspiration.

My favorite combination entailed the pairing of soft nudes with fire-engine reds.  It’s the perfect contrast between delicate and fierce.  By incorporating pieces of winter neutrals, it’s also an easy way to transition into bold colors without looking like you dressed yourself with a box of Crayolas.

I also love me some cobalt blue.  There’s something captivating about this shade, that instantly electrifies an outfit without any of that unwanted shock.  Paired with caramelized brown pieces, the combination makes for a great look for day or night.

And the easiest way to add a little color to your outfit: throw on a light-weight scarf in rich, primary color or a fun, spotted pattern.
