As soon as donned my new coat from Julie Brown, my boyfriend told me I looked like a character out of Gossip Girl. Boys — they just don’t understand.

So maybe this is a little more feminine than my usual outerwear, but I immediately fell in love with the frilled collar. It’s playfully unexpected and the cut of the coat is perfect for fall’s chilly mornings and warm afternoons. To complete the look, I paired it with skinny jeans and leopard pumps. The final result? A look that you can wear in the Upper East Side or downtown. XOXO.

Before moving to NYC, I only owned one black dress in my otherwise colorful wardrobe. Fast forward a year and my collection is rapidly growing with LBDs of all shapes and sizes. I love them because they make for an instantly polished look every time, which is perfect for mornings where I’m rushing out the door. When I do have a little more time and brainpower to put into my outfit, I dress up my LBDs with playful accessories: a textured jacket, a sparkly necklace, a pair of neon pumps – or all of the above!

Since moving to NYC, black has definitely played a more prominent role in my wardrobe. Sure, it’s chic and professional, but it’s also the perfect canvas for some major pops of color. Afterall, it wouldn’t be my kind of outfit with some bold hues or playful prints.
