And so we have arrived at the end of 2013.  To be quite honest, it’s been a bit of a blur.  It was my first full year in NYC, sprinkled with various adventures up and down the coast.  My boyfriend and the pup made their way out east and we’ve been tackling this new life together one day at a time.

From my first winter to my first real spring, 2013 has been full of new experiences.  Many of those memories were, of course, food related.  The boyfriend and I have vowed to try every donut, macaron, and ice cream served in the metropolitan area.  Needless to say, my waistband has not been very happy with me this year.

Of course, all of these new experiences wouldn’t mean very much without people to share them with.  I’m so thankful for the friends that I’ve made over the past year, especially my fellow blogger ladies.  I’m also lucky to reunite with my best friends at least once a year and feel like nothing has changed.  Geometric Top and Sequin Clutch

And then there’s the city itself.  NYC is not an easy place to live, but I can guarantee I’ll never be bored while I’m here.  From museums to parks to plenty of iconic landmarks, I’m part resident, part tourist and completely in love.

Of course, I’m also lucky to escape the concrete jungle from time to time.  I went on a few fantastic trips over the year, including a wedding in Louisiana, Fourth of July in North Carolina, a very quick summer trip to the Hamptons — all places that I full intend to return to one day!

There’s also a thing called work — I might complain about it quite a bit (especially on Mondays), but it’s been a full year in the real world and I feel like I’ve grown tremendously, both in life and in my career.

After the day job (and sometimes during), you can usually find me on the blogging grind.  What started as a hobby back in law school has evolved into a way of life.  Blogging over the past year has enabled me to pull inspiration from everywhere and has connected me with some wonderful bloggers and an amazing online community of readers.

Blogging has also helped me track my style over the past year.  I’d like to think that my core fashion principles have remained the same (be bold, bright and confident), but it’s the details that have really evolved.  This year has been all about more leopard, more print mixing, and more ways of re-styling old clothes.

All in all, it’s been a transforming year, for life in the city, for personal style and for blogging in general.  I feel so lucky be on this wonderful journey and even luckier to share it with you!

So what’s next?  I can only hope that 2014 will be as incredible as the last.  Cheers and have a happy new year!

Christmas Collage 2013Even after indulging in all things sweet, frosted, and sparkly over the past few weeks, Christmas sneaks up on me every time.  This year was a particularly special one — it being the first holiday season in New York City shared with the boyfriend.  From our VIP view of the Macy’s Day Parade to our silly shenanigans at Santa Con, I feel so lucky to be ending out the year with some incredible memories.  Happy holidays to you and yours!

Skirt The Rules Thanksgiving 2013

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  This year, I’m spending Turkey Day in NYC.  It pains me to be away from the family for the first time ever, but I’m so lucky to have my boyfriend, the pup and some amazing friends that I consider my second family here on the east coast.

Today, I’ll be watching the Macy’s Day Parade and then whipping up a dish (pumpkin mac n’ cheese!) for a Friendgiving gathering.  I used to wake up every Thanksgiving morning to watch the parade on TV — now I can’t believe I’m heading over to watch it in person!

There’s so much to be thankful for, but I’ll keep it short and sweet.  To my friends and family back home, I love and miss you (hi mom and dad!).  To my friends in NYC, thank you for coming into my life and making such a big city feel like home.  And to all my readers, thank you for following me on this crazy adventure!  Have a wonderful holiday!  I’ll see you all on the other side of the food coma.

P.S. Come back tomorrow for a full list of Black Friday sales or follow my Facebook page for early bird specials!
