I don’t talk about makeup that much on the blog, but I’ve slowly become somewhat of an enthusiast. Chalk it up to the hours of YouTube tutorials that I’ve watched, where I’ve learned everything from applying liquid foundation to filling in my eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil – all in the course of this past year. I’m definitely still learning the techniques, but what’s even more fun: I’m discovering all of my favorite tools like my favorite matte lip pencil (I own it in Cruella, Damned and Mysterious Red) to an ultra-moisturizing night cream that I can’t get enough of. I’m thinking about filming my own video on my YouTube channel, but for now, I’m sharing with you my current beauty essentials of the moment. I’m always on the hunt for new products, so feel free to share your favorites in the comments section below!

How to Take Care of Long Hair with Living Proof

Skirt The Rules // Floral Robe

Today, I’m partnering with Living Proof to chat about hair, which is kind of perfect, because I have a lot of it.

Skirt The Rules // Hair Care Tips for Long Hair

I started growing out my hair for our wedding back in May and then it just kept on going. I actually didn’t realize how long it was until we snapped this photo. As you might have guessed from my outfit photos, I curl my hair all the time – almost every day – so I don’t really notice it’s actual length until someone tells me how long my hair has grown (which I hear about once a week).

Skirt The Rules // Hair Mask for Damaged Hair

Length aside, it’s also pretty damaged from the constant abuse of my curling iron. I recently started noticing how dry/crunchy my strands felt, so I used Living Proof’s easy tool to figure out the best products for my current hair situation. I was especially excited to try out the Restore Mask Treatment. I’m what I like to call a “mask-aholic” and this one did not disappoint. After applying for just five minutes in the shower (in replacement of conditioner), my hair felt noticeably softer and smoother. Plus, it smells so good (all of the products do!). I’ve only used it twice now, so I can’t wait to see how the heeling progresses after a few weeks.

Skirt The Rules // Overnight Hair Mask

Another favorite is the Nightcap Overnight Perfector. It’s similar to the mask, but this one’s meant to be put on right before bedtime and left on overnight. I added a few pumps to my hair (focusing especially on the ends) and lo and behold: I woke up to softer, smoother, pretty smelling locks. Between this and the mask, my hair is definitely on the road to recovery!

Skirt The Rules // Best Hairspray 2015

Now that my long hair is feeling and looking better, it’s back to the curling iron (old habits die hard). I started by adding LP’s 5-in-1 Styling Treatment into damp hair, blow dried and curled, then finished with their Control Hairspray to make sure my ringlets last through the night and sometimes even through the next day because day-old curls are the best.
Skirt The Rules // Hair Styling Tips for Long Lasting Curls

You can definitely tell the difference between my straight hair and my curled hair after it’s been treated with hair masks, overnight conditioning and the right hairspray. It just looks healthier and happier! I can’t say enough good things about my Living Proof experience – it’s kind totally worth the investment, even if you just start with the Restore Mask or the Nightcap (or this awesome intro kit!). Do you have any hair care tips for long locks? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
