Shopping – Skirt The Rules | NYC Style Blogger http://skirttherulesblog.com NYC Style Blogger Wed, 15 Jul 2020 03:09:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 My Favorite Purchases from June http://skirttherulesblog.com/2020/07/15/what-i-bought-june-2020/ http://skirttherulesblog.com/2020/07/15/what-i-bought-june-2020/#respond Wed, 15 Jul 2020 09:00:00 +0000 http://skirttherulesblog.com/?p=19586

Here are my favorite purchases from last month!

Floral Midi Skirt / White Drapey Tank / Thick Hair Ties / Massage Gun / High Waisted Denim Shorts / High Waisted Biker Shorts / Straw Tote Bag / Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in ‘Pillow Talk’ / Knotted Headbands

Most of my purchases were in preparation for our three-week long trip to the west coast. We spent two weeks with our parents and siblings before heading on a road trip through Utah and Wyoming.

This floral midi skirt might be my favorite purchase of the montg – the print is so boho and romantic, and perfect for summer. I ordered a small and it fit perfectly – plus, it has pockets! I love how it looks with a knotted white t-shirt, but it’s so easy to dress up with a pretty ruffle blouse and this straw tote bag that I also bought for our trip.

For a super casual outfit, I love this white drapey tank and these high waisted jean shorts paired together. Both of these pieces are from Abercrombie, which has been my go-to for versatile basics lately!

I also jumped on the biker short bandwagon with this hot pink pair. I love that they’re high waisted and has pockets on both sides. I’ve worn them during a few runs and strength workouts and they’ve held up quite nicely. They’re also perfect for lounging around or running errands when it’s way too hot outside. Thinking I need these white ones next!

Speaking of fitness, this was probably my most random purchase of the month, but by far my favorite. I’ve been seeing ads for Theraguns every where, but couldn’t pull the trigger (get it?) on spending several hundreds dollars. This massage gun is a fraction of the price and feels so good on my muscles after a hard workout. James loves it too!

As for hair and beauty products, I recently had to restock my favorite lipstick (it’s the only shade I’ve worn for nearly two years now). I also bought this set of knotted headbands – the cute prints easily jazz up any outfit.

Lastly, this one is so random, but earlier this year I bought a single hair tie at a barre studio that I used to work out at and it was hands down, the most durable but comfortable tie I’ve ever worn. I finally tracked down the brand I bought this colorful set, but they also come in a bunch of different options. They’re great for thick hair, but don’t snag at all. I highly recommend!

Peace out, New York! Today, we’re off on a little adventure.

Skirt The Rules // Gelato Popsicles from Popbar

Cold Shoulder Top // Lariat Necklace // Denim Shorts // Bucket Bag

James and I are headed up to the North Shore in Massachusetts for a weekend getaway. I’m beyond ready to escape Manhattan and start exploring more of the East Coast – especially New England. Aside from Boston, I haven’t seen much of the area, but I’m excited to experience a little bit of history and a major dose of preppy vibes. I’m bringing along this scalloped skirt, my new Jacks and a bit of gingham, because you know me – I’m all about dressing the part.

Skirt The Rules // Manhattan Bridge, New York

Here are my favorite clickables for the week. Hope you have a bright and colorful weekend!

Sales & Shopping

  • Adding this pom pom dress to my Italy packing list.
  • If I could justify $250 for a hat, it would all be for this one.

  • My favorite romper is on major sale. It’s super soft and a season staple.
  • After buying my first pair of gladiator sandals, I’m hooked. This pair and this pair are next.

  • Swooning over all of Krista’s sunnies. #goals
  • Notice someone familiar in Rebecca Minkoff’s Instagram roundup?
  • You know I’m an ice cream girl, but what I would give for this strawberry lemonade popsicle right meow.

Original Post // Floral Dress

Happy Friday! I’m kicking off the weekend with a new series my favorite of my favorite links around the Interwebs. I’ve shared iterations of a weekly recap before, but felt inspired by Hallie to revamp the formatting by order of importance: shopping, worthy reads and, of course, the latest and greatest around these parts. I’m all about spicing things up from time to time!

Skirt The Rules // Summer on Long Island

Last weekend, we went to Long Beach on Long Island to celebrate our friend Dara’s birthday and I think I started a love affair with the little beach town. It only took us 45 minutes to get there from NYC by train, but it felt like we were back on the West Coast for a moment. We spent the afternoon soaking up the sun and eating all of the fish tacos and I’m already itching to go back. I totally recommend it for a quick escape from the city!

Skirt The Rules // Chihuahua Yorkie Mix

Chambray Shirt // Shorts // Turkish Towel

The plans for this weekend? Mild to moderate activity. We’re staying put, which I’m genuinely excited about. It means I get to go back to my morning workout routine, have a lazy brunch with friends and maybe even re-enact our picnic in the park with the pup.

Anyways, here are my favorite clickables for the week.I hope you enjoy! Happy weekending, my friends!

Retail Therapy

  • Because it doesn’t get much better than a scalloped skirt – unless, that is, you’re talking about a striped scalloped skirt.
  • Definitely taking this hat with me to Italy.
  • Ann Taylor’s new arrivals are here and they are on a whole new level. I’m talking about this red dress, this suede crossbody and these fringe heels. Hot damn!
  • The top contender for my birthday dress next week.
  • I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect shades all summer. First I ordered these in white and then these in pink, but ended up returning both. Sunglasses fit so weird on my head that I ended up buying a third pair of the frames that I always wear – but this time in tan! I think I have a problem.

Links I Loved

  • The Everygirl approves of rocking a jumpsuit on a first date. Get it.
  • Add these energy balls by my friend Sarah to your recipe list. They’re ridiculously delish!
  • All of my fashion illustrators in one colorful roundup (#8 happens to be a drawing of yours truly!).
  • What to do with that non-functioning fireplace of ours.
  • Now taking applications for a third wheel.

In Case You Missed It

  • The pattern of the season is right this way.
  • A bridesmaids’ kind of #tbt.
  • What to wear when it’s hot AF outside.
  • How I stay active in NYC.
