Last week, I celebrated living in NYC for three years by doing something pretty idiotic.

We visited Times Square at night.

Silly me for thinking that it would be slightly less crowded at midnight on a Saturday night. Nope – the most iconic (for tourists) and hated (for locals) area in Manhattan was still abuzz with travelers, families and adults dressed up as Elmo, Spiderman, and Hello Kitty.

Even though it’s usually an area that I try to avoid at all costs, it serves as a bright, fluorescent reminder of how far I’ve come from the first time I visited New York when I was eight to when I moved here three years ago.

I am by no means an expert on NYC, but I can rattle off a hit list of must do’s and tell you all the best rooftops to grab a drink. It has definitely taught me a thing or two about life and about myself and brought together old and new friendships into my life – and that’s one of the greatest things I could ever have from the place I call home.

That and a good ol’ fashion pretzel.

Sometimes Tuesday nights are best spent with 5,000 of your closest friends all dressed in white. Okay, I definitely don’t have 5,000 friends, but who’s counting?

Last week, I attended Diner en Blanc with Ashley, Lauren and a new-to-me wine brand, Apothic Wines. I participated in a similar event last year with a similar concept: everyone dresses in all white for a dinner and dance party at a surprise location revealed only an hour before the event begins. I wore this off-the-shoulder dress, painted my nails a crisp white and threw on a pair of coral-colored sunnies because you know I love my pop of color.

The best part of the evening – besides the gorgeous golden hour – had to be the people watching. People from all walks of life were dressed to the nines – and thensome. Think anywhere from women with the elaborate head pieces to people dressed like sailors and nurses. New Yorkers is full of the most eccentric characters and, consequently, the most magical nights.

One of the reasons that I love living in New York City is that there’s always something to do, and to my delightful surprise, a lot of the activities are free. Last Thursday, I ventured to the west side of town for the kickoff of Hudson RiverRocks – a series of free concerts on the pier. I definitely don’t hang out on the Hudson River enough, but I’ll take any excuse to be outdoors during the summer – especially when it involves live music, food trucks and good vibes.

I also paid a visit to the American Honey VIP Lounge, where they were serving up Wild Turkey American Honey® on the rocks or mixed into a deliciously sweet lemonade. Megan and I grabbed our mason jar mugs and watched the concert from backstage. You can’t really ask for a better summer night in NYC than that…

Well… as luck would have it, a storm rolled through just as the night was ending. We took cover in the American Honey VIP tent, polished off our drinks and made a mad dash to hail a cab.
