Beach Style / White Maxi Dress with Tassels

You may have noticed a familiar face on Lilly Pulitzer’s Instagram feed last week. I took over their account to share some of my favorite outfits from our Tulum trip — this maxi dress with tassels being one of them!

I think what attracted me to this Lilly dress was that it didn’t actually look like a Lilly dress — because that makes sense, right? You know that I love my bright colors and bold prints, but sometimes a girl just wants an easy, breezy white dress for a beach trip or a date night or anything in between. That’s why the Caridee maxi dress was calling my name. It’s made of a gauzy material that is light enough for summer, but thick enough so that it’s not see through. Plus, the colorful tassels are just the right amount of flare to make the dress feel special!

Sizing note: I’m 5’2″ wearing an XS, but had to get the dress hemmed about 5 to 6 inches so that I could wear the dress with flat sandals — or barefoot! It was so very worth it!

You may have noticed that I got on board the Lilly Pulitzer train in a major way this year. It started with a caftan that I brought on a cruise last fall, but amped up over the summer, when I brought a few of my favorite dresses along with me to Greece. Well now some of those dresses are on MAJOR sale as party of Lilly’s After Party Sale. The Shay Dress (top left) and Mila Shift Dress (bottom right) are at least 50% off their original price and if you’re a big Lilly fan, you know this rarely happens. Not a traditional Lilly fan? Out of all the Lilly Pulitzer things in my wardrobe, this might the most Lilly kind of Lilly dress I own.

Still with me there? In my mind, there are two types of Lilly: classic or modern. To me, the Mila dress is so quintessentially classic. Maybe it’s the cut (you can never go wrong with a shift dress), the punchy pink combo, or the white embroidered piping. Put those three together and you’ve basically got the brand’s trademark look.

I’ve worn a lot of Lilly lately (and even celebrated #NationalWearYourLillyDay earlier this week), but before the Mila dress, most of what I own is what I’d consider “modern Lilly.” A sporty-inspired style like the Shay dress. A romantic whispy white frock like the Sienna dress. An easy trapeze number like the Carmel dress. You know those are right up my alley, but to my delightful surprise, so are the classic styles. There’s nothing that gives me vacation vibes like wearing something bright, punchy and so so girly. Just add a pair of Jack Rogers and you’d never know that I’m originally from the west coast!
