Valentine's Day Outfit Idea / Love Sweater

Valentine’s Day is exactly one week away and do you want to know what James and I have planned? Absolutely nothing.

In the 13+ years that James and I have been together, Valentine’s Day has been relatively low key. I remember during the first or second year, James ordered Olive Garden and brought it back to our dorms for “date night” as a throwback to one of the first times we hung out as just friends (ha!). I’ll admit, that every now and then, we’ll become suckers and opt for going out, only to be stiffed by a price-gouged prix fixe menus at jam packed restaurants. Très romantic.

In more recent years, we created a new tradition where I treat James to dinner out a few days before February 14 and he cooks me dinner on the day of (I’m talking grocery shopping, meal prep and dishes!). We had a good thing going when V Day was over the weekend, but it’s been a little more difficult on a weeknight. Last year, I wasn’t even in town! Instead, I was traveling for work and spent the evening with my colleagues at Buca di Beppo. I know, there seems to be a pattern with me and chain restaurants for Valentine’s Day. Not intentional, I swear!

Valentine's Day Outfit Idea / Love Sweater This year, I imagine it’s going to be another low key night. Don’t get me wrong, I love celebrating love (and wearing on my sleeve — or in the case of this sweater, on my chest). I just don’t need a specific day to celebrate it — just like I don’t need a specific reason to get flowers (hint hint James!). I’m sure James and I will celebrate in our own way over the weekend — chocolate included!

Summer Style in Sydney / Navy Maxi Dress

I know there are a lot of sensational headlines being thrown around these days, but I promise you this: if you’re going on vacation in the near future, this is the only dress you’re going to want to wear.

I have a similar dress from our trip to Nice last July, but this one is way more comfortable and easy to wear. There’s a little cutout in front, which I love, but it’s actually pretty subtle since the bow tie sits in front of it. I wore this on our first full day of exploring Sydney when we explored the Sydney Harbour. As you can from this post, I wore a bunch of different outfits in Australia. But the truth is, after we finished shooting outfits, I constantly found myself switching back to this outfit for dinner or drinks or a walk along the boardwalk. What can I say? The heart wants what the heart wants!

You know that feeling when you find the perfect dress, only to discover that it also has pockets?! Best feeling in the world.

Pink Maxi Dress with Pockets

And this beautiful blush number is one of those make-your-heart-flutter kind of dresses. I wore it to a wedding a few weekends ago in Phoenix. It was a last minute find on Revolve and also happened to be on sale! I immediately fell in love with it because of the deep plunge v-neck, the pretty pink shade and the pleats, which add a little layer of luxury to it. It’s technically supposed to hit at a tea length, but since I’m 5’2″, it’s more of a maxi on me – which I think is perfect! For reference, I’m wearing a size XS.

Side note: It actually has a built-in choker to it (you can see how it’s supposed to be worn here), but I thought it kind took away from the simplicity of the deep v, so I tucked it behind my neck and let the very open chest do all the talking. If you’re a guest at a wedding, or a bridesmaid, or have any special occasion coming up in your life, I highly recommend this dress! It’s amazing quality!
