Tie Front Blouse (on sale for $31 – wearing XS) / Step Hem Ankle Jeans (on sale for $59 – wearing 2P) / Chloe ‘Marcie’ Crossbody Bag / Rosegold Bangle Watch (c/o) / Gold Pave Ring / Gold Cuff (c/o) / Leopard Flats / Smashbox Lipstick in “Safe Word”

Thirty-one years ago today, I made my debut into the world. Man, has time flown by! I’ll be celebrating with a few of my favorites in NYC tonight, before heading off on a quick adventure to the south of France in a few days (I’m so excited for this trip, but probably should start packing soon…). In honor of my 31st birthday, I figured I’d switch it up a bit by sharing 31 things you may not know about me. Here goes nothin’.

#NSale: White Tie Front Blouse & Skinny Jeans

1. I have one older brother that’s two years older than me – he was the reason I grew up a tomboy.

2. When I was 12 years old, I had an advanced brown belt in Tae Kwon Do, but quit before I had to start breaking blocks.

3. I’ve tired a lot of hobbies growing up (playing guitar, painting, sewing), but blogging is the only one that stuck.

4. I’m a huge TV nerd – Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Breaking Bad, Heroes and Game of Thrones are among my all-time favorites.

5. In fact, dog Hiro is named after a character from the show Heroes.

6. Speaking of cool, I was also president of our drama club, captain of the speech & debate team and in marching band in high school.

7. I performed in marching band for three years so that I wouldn’t have to take a PE class.

8. Ironically now, working out is one of my favorite things to do to relieve stress – boxing, pilates, hot yoga and HIIT classes especially!

9. I met my then-boyfriend, now-husband when I was 18 and a freshman in college.

10. I put him in the friend zone for two months, but realized that I had feelings for him when we both went home for Thanksgiving.

11. The first time I ever visited NYC was when I was 8 years old and the only thing I remember is seeing a boy pee in the streets of Chinatown.

12. The first time I thought about moving to New York was after watching Gossip Girl in college.

13. I wanted to be an actress when I was a little kid, but my parents told me I had to be a doctor.

14. I applied to med school during my senior year of college and didn’t get in.

15. So I took a year off after graduation and was a social worker.

16. I told my parents that I’d try to apply to med school again, but I actually applied to law school and got in.

17. I graduated and passed the New York even though I knew I didn’t want to be a lawyer.

18. In fact, I spent most of my time in law school shopping online or browsing Pinterest.

19. I moved to New York with two giant suitcases and no job.

20. For the first two months of living in NYC, I sublet an apartment off Craigslist with a dude I had never met before (James followed a few months later after finishing grad school).

21. I tend to be pretty meticulous when it comes to traveling – I like to have an itinerary!

22. On my bucket list of places to travel before we start a family: Australia, Thailand, Spain, Portgual, Colombia, Peru, South Africa.

23. Italian food is my favorite cuisine, followed closely by Thai and Greek.

24. My favorite place in the entire world is Santorini and I’m trying to find a way to get back ASAP.

25. A close second is the National Mall in Washington, DC at night.

26. The first thing I do when I wake up is check Instagram – it’s a bad habit that I’d like to give up.

27. I used to be addicted to espresso (like 4 shots a day!), but have recently switched over to chai and matcha.

28. The longer I live in New York (5 years next month!), the less I’m sure about moving back to the West Coast.

29. I’m actually pretty introverted by nature and get nervous when I have to speak in a group setting.

30. I think I’m a better writer than I am a speaker.

31. I’ve never felt in better health and spirits as I do at 31!

Anything on this list surprise you? Probably that I’m actually a huge nerd, right? Ha! Anyways, I would love to read a fun fact about you – share one in the comments section below!!

Dressing for a West Coast Winter http://skirttherulesblog.com/2017/01/09/winter-style-in-san-diego/ http://skirttherulesblog.com/2017/01/09/winter-style-in-san-diego/#comments Mon, 09 Jan 2017 10:00:00 +0000 http://skirttherulesblog.com/?p=14632 How to Dress for the Winter in San Diego

BP turtleneck a line dress (comes in 4 color) / BP buffalo plaid oblong scarf / Chloe ‘Marcie’ crossbody bag in ‘Cashmere Grey’ / Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’ sunglasses / Converse ‘Chuck Taylor All Stars’ sneakers / Smashbox ‘Be Legendary’ matte lipstick in ‘Safe Word’

Whenever we visit the west coast in the winter, I get a little pang of jealousy as I imagine what life could be like if we just moved back home. I mean, bare legs in January? That’s a good enough reason to move back, right?

Pale Pink Long Sleeve Dress & Plaid Scarf

I guess “winter” is all relative though. All of my west coast friends get bundled up because it’s cold to them, while I’m out there without a jacket because it’s warm to me. My friends in the south are hoping for snow while I’m in NYC praying that we don’t get hit with a blizzard this season. The grass is always greener on the other side, isn’t it?

Pale Pink Long Sleeve Dress & Plaid Scarf

If I lived on the west coast permanently, my winter wardrobe would be full of light, layerable pieces like this long sleeve dress and buffalo plaid scarf, which I basically wore the entire week I was back home for the holidays. Not going to lie, west coast winters are the best kind of winters …. if you can even call it that!

White Eyelet Dress at Ace Hotel http://skirttherulesblog.com/2016/08/15/white-eyelet-midi-dress/ http://skirttherulesblog.com/2016/08/15/white-eyelet-midi-dress/#comments Mon, 15 Aug 2016 09:00:31 +0000 http://skirttherulesblog.com/?p=13734
Skirt The Rules White Eyelet Dress 1

Wayf cotton eyelet popover dress (on sale and selling out of sizes fast!) / BP colorblock foldover clutch (only $25!) / Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’ sunglasses / Kendra Scott ‘Scottie’ choker necklace (c/o) / Gorjana ‘Carine’ mixed metals cuff (c/o) / Movado ‘Bold’ rose gold bangle watch (c/o) / Steve Madden ‘Rizzaa’ lace up sandals / NARS Audacious lipstick in ‘Greta’

Having a little neutral moment in the middle of the desert today – think of it as a visual palate cleanser. Don’t worry, the pops of color will be back, but this white eyelet dress is perfect for summer and just too good not to share.

I needed to share evidence that we left our colorful oasis of a hotel to explore the rest of Palm Springs, so we ventured down the street to Ace Hotel & Swim Club. They have a really cute, retro-inspired diner called King’s Highway where we started our day with avocado toast (me) and a stack of pancakes (James). From there, we wandered through the hotel grounds, which were way more low key than The Saguaro in an effortlessly cool kind of way. I followed suit by taking a quick break from dresses with bright colors or bold prints and went with this white midi dress paired with accessories like this colorblock foldover clutch and lace up sandals. Neutral vibes for a natural space. Anyone else prefer to dress to their surroundings?
