Holiday Party Outfit Ideas: Red Lace Dress

It really hasn’t hit me until this past weekend, when I finally settled into full-on festive mode. I’m talking Christmas music on repeat at home and peppermint bark cookies in the oven. I also finally got to shoot this gorgeous red lace midi dress this weekend. I wore it last month for a wedding rehearsal, but couldn’t wait to wear it again for the holidays. The detail on this dress is insanely gorgeous and it’ll cost you a fraction of the price of a this Self-Portrait number. It’ll run you $70, but will come in handy for those last minute Christmas parties, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day and much much more!

This is totally a “first world problem” kind of problem, but I’m just going to put this out there: it is not very fun taking photos what is basically the jungle.

Vacation Style / Tropical Dress & Straw Clutch

Case in point: my flat hair (it fell out within minutes of curling it), my sweaty forehead and my oil-stained clothes (after having rubbed insect repellent all over myself). All of the elements are against the idea of a shoot — including a husband who would much rather be hanging on the hammock. I’ll have to admit, these aren’t my favorite photos, but this is one of my favorite outfits from our trip. I fell in love with this tropical print dress as soon as I saw it. From the one shoulder ruffle to the bright bold pattern — I knew I had to bring it with me to Tulum. I also don’t have much orange in my wardrobe, but that might just have to change after this number. So remember: if all else fails (curls, sweat, bug bites galore), just throw on a dazzler of a dress and all will be right in the world again.

Skirt The Rules / Pink Peplum Maxi Dress

Is it me or does it seem like everyone is getting married these days? I’m obviously all for it — James and I just celebrated our second anniversary last week and we’ve got a few weddings lined up this year to celebrate some of our favorite people of all time.

In fact, we just came back from a wedding in LA this past weekend and I got to put a few new recent purchases to use. I wore this teal lace dress to the rehearsal dinner and this pink peplum dress to ceremony and reception the next day. Dressing up might be one of my most favorite things about attending a wedding (next to tearing up the dance floor, of course). It’s a chance to embrace the extra special details, like a pretty print, a pair of tassels or the most darling ruffle peplum ever. We’ve got another wedding back in Arizona in less than two weeks and I’m trying to figure out how I can top this outfit.
