Beauty – Skirt The Rules | NYC Style Blogger http://skirttherulesblog.com NYC Style Blogger Wed, 01 Sep 2021 21:31:26 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 My Five Favorite Lipsticks of the Moment from Walmart http://skirttherulesblog.com/2021/09/01/my-five-favorite-lipsticks-of-the-moment-from-walmart/ http://skirttherulesblog.com/2021/09/01/my-five-favorite-lipsticks-of-the-moment-from-walmart/#respond Wed, 01 Sep 2021 12:00:00 +0000 http://skirttherulesblog.com/?p=20946

Today I’m partnering with Walmart to try on five new-to-me lipstick shades.

Let me preface this post by saying: I am by no means a beauty blogger, but I sure do love to play around with makeup and discover new products and shades. So imagine me browsing the beauty section of Walmart.com like a kid in a candy store – salivating from all the options.

Ultimately, I landed on five different lipstick brands in various sheens and shades. Because this girl likes options, obviously.

Wild Thoughts – I think the best way to tame a pretty pink is to make it matte.

Organza – A bit sheer and sheen, this would be a great evening lippy!

Sultry Sienna – A versatile neutral with a bit of shine to it.

Rich Raisin – This gorgeous shade is the perfect transition to fall.

Ground-Breaker – This rich matte red is giving me all the vampy vibes!

I would love to know which shade is your favorite! You can shop them all plus even more options over at Walmart.com!

Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post!

The History Behind My Hair Care Routine http://skirttherulesblog.com/2020/11/13/the-history-behind-my-hair-care-routine/ http://skirttherulesblog.com/2020/11/13/the-history-behind-my-hair-care-routine/#respond Fri, 13 Nov 2020 16:37:04 +0000 http://skirttherulesblog.com/?p=19947

Today, I’m partnering with Pantene to talk about my hair care journey!

My hair has always been a big part of my identity — even when I was a little girl! I remember I had really long hair when I was five years old and was devastated when it all got chopped off at the salon (who else knows the feeling when they take a little too much off?!). I also vividly remember digging through my mom’s hair care products when I was younger — looking back, I’m not surprised that they were all Pantene products!

Since then, my hair journey has been a lot of trial and error. I’ve highlighted my hair, accidentally dyed it orange and put it through years of abuse with hot styling tools. It wasn’t until the past few years that I really started focusing on hair care and doing everything I can to keep my hair healthy. If hair is a big part of who I am, it only makes sense to be as diligent about it as I am with my overall health and wellness.

Enter Pantene Nutrient Blends. I recently started using the Hair Volume Multiplier with Bamboo Shampoo and Conditioner because it’s free of silicone, parabens and dyes. It has a blend of vitamin B5, antioxidants and bamboo that breathes life (and nutrients!) back into my hair. I love how light, but full my hair feels — especially knowing that it isn’t weighed down by any yucky ingredients. If you’re interested in an extra boost, you can try the hair thickness multiplier leave-in treatment.

It’s definitely been a journey over the years, but I’m happy to report that my hair has never felt healthier than it does today. If you’re looking to inject new life into your hair care routine, I recommend giving Pantene’s Hair Volume Multiplier Shampoo and Conditioner a try — you can shop the full collection  at Target online, in store and via order pick up and order drive up!

My 5-Minute Makeup Routine with Nordstrom http://skirttherulesblog.com/2020/07/30/my-5-minute-makeup-routine-with-nordstrom/ http://skirttherulesblog.com/2020/07/30/my-5-minute-makeup-routine-with-nordstrom/#respond Thu, 30 Jul 2020 09:00:00 +0000 http://skirttherulesblog.com/?p=19630

Today, I’m partnering with Nordstrom to share my makeup essentials whenever I’m tight on time.

Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil in Soft Brown / Laura Mercier Eyeshadow Stick in Au Natural / Urban Decay Liquid Eyeliner / Charlotte Tilbury Contour Palette / NARS Blush in Orgasm / Charlotte Tilbury Matte Lipstick in Pillow Talk / Urban Decay Setting Spray

The only time you’ll really find me with a full face of makeup is when I’m taking blog photos. Most of the time – especially during the week when I head to work – I don’t have the time or energy, so my usual routine only takes me five minutes. No frills and falsies – here are the three things I focus on:

1. Eyebrow Pencil: I love my eyebrows sharp and defined – I think it makes such a difference when framing your face. I’ve been using Anastasia’s Brow Wiz Pencil in ‘soft brown’ for years. I’ve tried others but always found myself going back to this powerful little pencil – I love that it gives me precision and the ability to build up the definition.

2. Eyeshadow Stick: I love playing around with a full eyeshadow palette, but when I’m tight on time and low on energy, a couple swipes of Laura Mercier’s eyeshadow stick is all I need (it glides on so easily!). During the day, I’m not looking for dramatic eyes – just a little dimension.

3. Eyeliner: Unless I’m taking blog photos, I’ll skip the mascara and eye lashes. Instead, I rely on a jet black liquid eyeliner to make my eyes pop. Urban Decay’s Perversion Eye Pen has been my go-to for years (bonus points for being waterproof!).

4. Contour / Bronzer: Next, I’ll add a little bit of color and dimension to the rest of my face. I started using Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze & Glow Contour Duo last year and I love how pigmented the bronzer and the highlighter are. I usually swipe the bronzer along my cheekbones, jawlines and the sides of my forehead.

5. Blush: I remember NARS blush was the first makeup product that I ever “invested” in beyond my drugstore buys (that was before I realized how expensive and addicting makeup could be!). The shade ‘Orgasm’ has been my go-to for nearly a decade now. Just a brush of it on the apples of my cheeks is enough to give me a rosy glow.

6. Setting Spray: When I can remember, I’ll finish off with the Urban Decay setting spray to lock in the makeup and hydration.

Bonus: I don’t normally wear lipstick to work, but I do for photos – Charlotte Tilbury’s matte lipstick in ‘Pillow Talk‘ has been the only shade I’ve worn for the past few years.

Thank you Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!
