My First Foray into Maternity Jeans

I now own three pairs of maternity jeans and this is my favorite pair so far!

Gray wrap sweater (S) / White maternity skinny jeans (XS – c/o Motherhood Maternity) / White leopard knotted headband / Black tote bag with zipper / Black and beige cap toe flats (6.5 TTS – c/o Ann Taylor)

I remember the day clearly: I was about 18 weeks pregnant in mid-December when I finally could no longer zip up my favorite pre-pregnancy jeans. I hadn’t yet purchased maternity jeans or leggings, and even my beloved black high-waisted leggings were starting to feel a little tight around the waist. I spent the rest of the holiday season in sweatpants.

It wasn’t long before I fell in love with maternity leggings (they’re so soft and comfy that I might not ever switch back). But I also want to be able to look a little more put together from time to time and since it’s still a little early for bare legs in NYC, I needed to get my hands on some equally comfy maternity jeans.

I’ve tried a few pair on and these white skinny jeans from Motherhood Maternity are by far my favorite! They are stretchy enough that I can move around with ease (and even squat down – not that I’m doing a booty workout in them!). As suggested, I went with my pre-pregnancy size of XS. I’m 5’2″, so the length was a bit long and I ended up trimming about two inches off myself for a raw unfinished hem look.

Instead of the normal zipper/button front-fly on normal jeans, maternity jeans are held up by a giant, stretchy band that covers your entire belly. Not the most glamorous look, but when layered on a tunic-length top like this cozy wrap sweater, you can actually look cute and feel comfy. For reference, I was 25 weeks pregnant in these photos and I highly recommend!
